Abstract

The article examines the phenomenon of civil society in Latin America, examines its civilizational and ideological foundations, specific characteristics, various directions of social activity during the late XX-first decades of the XXI century. The author analyzes the activities of large NGOs in the social sphere, the implementation of multiculturalism policy, considers examples of public-private partnership, the role of local civil activism in complementing and improving the state strategy on the ground. Special attention is paid to the practice of social mutual assistance and solidarity initiated by civil society structures during the COVID-19 pandemic.
