Abstract

The literature has been briefly reviewed. The cases of laryngeal paralysis due to thyroidectomy and diseases of the thyroid gland constitute of 0.02% of the total number of patients attending E. N. T., Out-Patient Department and 10.6% of the total number of laryngeal paralysis from other disease. The incidence of paralysis is more in pre operative cases than the thyroidectomy cases. The ratio between male and female is 7:1. The age period varies from 18 years to 60 years. The incidence of unilateral paralysis (93.7%) is much higher than the bilateral paralysis. Right complete recurrent paralysis (68.75%) is the commonest type of paralysis. Malignant tumours of the thyroid gland is found to be the commonest tumour causing the laryngeal paralysis.
