Abstract

One of the main purposes of this paper has been to provide an evaluation of the spherical constant volume vessel method with particular reference to its use over the full range of the combustion process. To this end basic equations, as well as a variety of corroborative relations, applicable throughout the process are derived. These have been used to obtain results on the effects of mixture composition, pressure and temperature on the burning velocity of some acetylene-air mixtures. The nature of the pressure and temperature dependence appears to be more complex than has hitherto been found.
