Abstract
The base flow downstream of slender cones in a stream of perfect gas at Mach numbers 8 and 10 and Reynolds numbers 104 and 105 is numerically investigated. The calculated heat fluxes to the rear face of the body are compared with experimental data. It is shown that the friction and heat transfer coefficients increase without bound as the corner point is approached from both the lateral surface and the rear face, the sign of the latter coefficient being dependent on the body surface temperature factor.
