Abstract

The interchromosomal effect of In(2L+ 2R)Cy, that are known to enhance recombination in the X chromosome distally, on a heterozygous duplication/normal system of the wch site was tested. This system shows unequal recovery of left and right halves of the duplication, which has previously been interpreted as an indication of polarized pairing. Assuming this view is correct, effects of Cy on the polarization would have permitted a tentative explanation of the unusual action of Cy distally in X. However, no other effect than a general enhancement of recombination was observed.
