Abstract

Distance education has advanced significantly thanks to technologies, providing flexibility and accessibility on a global level. This article reviews the literature to analyze these advances and persistent challenges, focusing on online learning platforms, communication tools, digital educational resources, and emerging technologies such as augmented reality, virtual reality, and artificial intelligence. Despite the benefits, significant challenges remain, such as the digital divide and the need for digital skills training for teachers and students. The review identifies strategies to overcome these obstacles, including government policies, innovations in instructional design, and collaboration between educational institutions and technology companies. These collaborations facilitate access to advanced technologies and develop customized solutions that improve educational quality. The discussion underscores the importance of continually evaluating program quality and implementing a multifaceted approach to ensure equitable access and effective learning. In conclusion, although distance education has made considerable progress, it is crucial to address the remaining challenges through effective policies, infrastructure investments, and ongoing training programs to maximize its potential and ensure inclusive, high-quality education.
