Abstract

A key role for the development of tourism activities in some regions is the articulation of common strategies in the fi eld of knowledge and technological innovation to harness the resources of these regions. The model of open innovation represents an alternative/complementary path for knowledge management and the proposal of new strategies in the development of projects in different areas. The sources for external ideas for this open model are diverse, ranging from clients, suppliers or partners in a joint venture, to universities or research centres. This paper evaluates the usefulness of the application of open innovation in the processes and decision-making of Extremadura's tourism enterprises as a tool to facilitate entry into the new market of business, meetings, and incentives tou- rism.
