Abstract

The text aims to reformulate the vision of the birth of philosophy in religious terms, through a comprehensive analysis of three great spiritual movements of Antiquity: Platonism, Pythagorism, and Orphism. We usually see the birth of philosophy as a change from myth to reason; however, paying attention to the classical sources, you may notice the religious and political weight of such transformation. These three movements aimed at overthrowing the Homeric religion.
