Abstract

We present statistical studies made with ten molars M3 and m3 of south-central Chile, we compared material of gomphotheres Stegomastodon platensis , Stegomastodon waringi and Cuvieronius hyodon of South America. Also we analyze three fragments defense of the Chilean sites of Monte Verde, Mulpulmo and Nochaco. In the statistical analysis it is clear that the molars are very variable in shape, also in size and have a great dispersion, however in bivariate diagrams the molars of Chile were grouped with the molars large (genus Stegomastodon ). The discriminant analysis indicates that five m3 are associated with Stegomastodon platensis and two with Cuvieronius hyodon , two M3 are associated with Stegomastodon platensis and one with Stegomastodon waringi . We discuss the sympatric between species S. platensis and C. hyodon in southern Chile.

  • We present statistical studies made with ten molars M3 and m3 of south-central Chile, we compared material of gomphotheres Stegomastodon platensis, Stegomastodon waringi and Cuvieronius hyodon of South America

  • Dispersal, and extinction of South American Pleistocene gomphotheres (Gomphotheriidae, Proboscidea)
