Abstract

This article reflects on the matter of academic careers through the case of the Autonomous Metropolitan University (Mexico). Phenomena such as the predominance of individualism, the separation of academic trajectories from institutional goals, the weakening of teaching at the undergraduate level and of collective work, the loss of interest and participation in the university’s management, the loss of depth and quality in scientific publications, and the increase in simulation strategies to gain points for performance evaluations have resulted in the development of academic careers oriented by productivism. Despite widespread criticism of this system within the academic community, its transformation still faces strong resistance.
