Abstract

Using a qualitative approach, this article analyses the strategies developed in households with children and adolescents in vulnerable neighbourhoods in La Matanza district, in order to be able to guarantee the availability of food during the Compulsive and Preventive Social Isolation due to COVID-19. 55 in-depth interviews were conducted in 5 vulnerable neighbourhoods. Community dining schemes and picnic areas, as well as other social aid strategies, such as school food bags, Alimentar Card and neighbour solidarity, became key pieces in a time of socioeconomic deprivation. Food diet quality and the number of daily meals decreased as they lacked fresh fruits and vegetables, legumes, and a revealed a reduced intake of meat. However, home-made food prevailed, and food and water consumption improved. Changes in children and teenagers´ weight and moods were also observed.
