Abstract

The recent studies about economic integration have underlined that during the eighties the main regional agreements aimed at importing institutions or credibility in economic policy more than at increasing intrazone trade. Franc Zone African Countries have had an institutional cooperation for more than thirties years and have developed this cooperation during the recent years. In the light of this experience, the present paper shows the issues at state and the limits of this new form of integration. It also studies why in Africa the institutional cooperation may be prerequisite of trade integration.
