Abstract
Time is one of the main components of Jean-Philippe Toussaint’s literary work. Simultaneously, the theme of light has always occupied, as he explicitly stated in La Main et le regard, “a central place in [his] work”. With these two features as the starting points of this analysis, we examine the particular ways in which they are articulated within the tetralogy Marie Madeleine Marguerite de Montalte, in order to identify the resulting logic of imagination.
