Abstract

Blade Runner takes place in the XXIst century in Los Angeles and deals with the story of the Répliquants, half-man, half-robot creatures shaped by Doctor Tyrell. After their mutiny, Deckard who is the protagonist and narrator of the film, is sent after them to kill them. The film unfolds a dysphoric conception of the universe it represents, and uses the space of the city as a metaphor for people 's loss of identity and landmarks. Yet, in his quest for truth, the detective tends to restore a meaning and finds back his lost identity by reshaping the labyrinth of the city. Thus, we will try to analyze the way Blade Runner, after representing a dysphoric universe which is but a parody of traditional utopia, proposes a solution to the degeneracy of mankind through the quest for a meaning leading to a possible redemption.
