Abstract
In the current global financial situation, the NHS is under pressure to cut costs and increase productivity without affecting patient outcomes. One area that has been targeted is the procurement of joint replacement hardware. In this article, the authors describe the process for change of total knee replacement at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital, and the early clinical consequences. They attempt to learn lessons from the aviation industry as to how this could be improved in the future.
