Abstract

The accuracy of the load model has a significant influence on power system simulation, which means that improper load model structure or parameters may lead to unreasonable sometimes even false results. Therefore, much work has been done to select more proper load model structure and to identify the corresponding load model parameters more effectively, recently. However, how to use the large numbers of the identified load model parameters is still an important but complex problem. In order to make the real-time identified load model parameters usable, k-medoids based typical load model parameter extraction method is proposed in this paper. The real-time load model parameter identification method is reviewed first. Then, both the original and the modified k-medoids methods are presented. Finally, the extraction method is tested with the actual Phasor Measurement Unit (PMU) measurements from the China Southern Power Grid. In conclusion, the results indicate the validity of the modified cluster method.
