Abstract
Autoradiography combined with tritiated thymidine was used to find some aspects of proliferation and migration kinetics of epithelial cells in the colonic crypts of guinea pig. The results led to the following conclusions: 1. 1. In the colonic crypt of guinea pig there exist two centres of intensive proliferation: the main one near the bottom of the crypt and the additional one near the top. 2. 2. The velocity of cell migration was estimated: ( a) by computing the first moments of labelled cells distribution at various time intervals after 3HTdR injection; ( b) by accumulation of proliferation rates. The results obtained with both methods were found to fit each other well. The cell velocity rose towards the mouth of the crypt where it was 0.7–0.8 cell-width/h.
