Abstract

The effects of the addition of diluents and/or fortifier (PGEHA), synthesized by condensing phenylglycidyl ether (PGE) and 4-hydroxy acetanilide (HA) using 0.1 wt % diethylamine hydrochloride as catalyst, on the epoxy resin have been investigated kinetically by differential scanning calorimetry. The rate of reaction was followed dynamically over the range 25–300°C. The activation energy for the various epoxy systems, as determined using four different computational methods, is in the range of 51–97 kJ mol −1 and the order of the reaction is ~ 2.0.
