Abstract
Introduction: Kidney IRI induces TNF-mediated lung apoptosis which contributes to microvascular injury. T lymphocyte trafficking and activation play a critical role in mediating the local immune response during kidney ischemia-reperfusion injury (IRI), and we have previously shown CD3+ T lymphocyte activation and trafficking to the lungs during ischemic AKI. Utilizing T cell-deficitent (Tnu/nu) mice and adoptive transfer experiments, we investigated the specific role of T lymphocytes in mediating pulmonary apoptosis during kidney IRI.
