The effort to pluralise economics requires informed choices about paradigms, understanding their features and affiliations. Theories must be compared based on their paradigmatic localisation. A hermeneutic analysis challenges the view that Keynes, Kalecki, and Minsky share a unified Post Keynesian paradigm. Kalecki's closed system contrasts with Keynes's open system, suggesting Kalecki may align more with new-Keynesian models. Minsky, however, shares Keynes's open system ontology. This indicates that 'Post Keynesianism' may misleadingly suggest coherence where significant differences exist.

Intertextual Aspects of Productions of Ukrainian Folk-Stage Choreography
  • Oct 31, 2022
  • NATIONAL ACADEMY OF MANAGERIAL STAFF OF CULTURE AND ARTS HERALD
  • Dar’Ya Degtyar

The purpose of the article is to reveal the specificity of intertextuality in the choreographic text of Ukrainian folk stage dance productions. The research methodology is determined by the complexity and multifacetedness of the production of folk stage choreography as an artistic work and is represented by a combination of various research approaches, namely interdisciplinary, systemic, and cultural. The purpose of the study led to the use of comparative, structural-semiotic, hermeneutic, and intertextual analysis methods widely adapted in modern humanitarian science, the main principle of which is to consider the choreographic text as an open system that enters into various relationships with other systems. Intertextual analysis plays an important role in revealing the concept of a choreographic work, its relevance is based on the idea of dialogic essence and continuity of culture. Scientific novelty. The performance of folk stage choreography is studied through the prism of the concept of intertextuality of Yu. Kristeva and theoretical approaches to the study of the text of R. Barthes; the role of the choreographer-director and the audience in the context of the creation and interpretation of the choreographic text is considered; the concept of “intertextuality” in the context of the choreographic text of the production of folk stage choreography is clarified; it was found that the character of intertextuality directly depends on the specifics of communication, which is determined by the nature of the choreographic text of folk-stage forms. Conclusions. As a result of the extrapolation of Yu. Kristeva's concept of intertextuality and theoretical approaches to the study of R. Barth's text to folk-stage choreography, it was found that: the choreographic text of a folk-stage performance is created by means of synthesising various quotes that refer to a variety of cultural sources; in the multidimensional space of the folk stage production, the process of systematic birth of meaning and its release takes place; the concept of intertextuality in the context of the production of folk stage choreography blurs the contours of the choreographic text, turning it into an infinite artistic dimension of connections and associations. The conducted analysis allows us to define the phenomenon of intertextuality of folk-stage choreography performances as a special choreographic intertextual space, in the middle of which there is accumulation, coexistence and constant interaction of all the diversity of vocabulary of authentic and folk-stage dance. In its middle, any element of a folk dance is immersed in a general cultural context and correlates with an array of other choreographic texts, multiplying its own content, relevance and interpretive possibilities. Intertextual interactions in the choreographic text of a folk-stage dance provide an opportunity for the choreographer-director to enter the continuum of eternal themes of folk culture, enter into an artistic dialogue with the past achievements of dance culture and, thus, reflect their own vision of the scene-content part of the folk-stage dance, which, in turn, expands the figurative system of the new choreographic work, emphasises its multi-layeredness and serves as a basis for various interpretations. The choreographer-producer of the folk stage dance interacts not only with the reality surrounding them, but also with the entire corpus of their previous and contemporary choreographic works, and most importantly with folk dance primary sources, being in a state of permanent dialogue with them. The text of a folk stage choreographic production consists of various elements that come from different cultures, enter into a relationship of dialogue, parody, discussion with each other – all this multiplicity is focused in a certain point, which is the viewer. The viewer’s role in the interpretation of the choreographic text is crucial, as their previous experience, cultural and educational background will undoubtedly influence the amount of meaning they can obtain when viewing the choreographic work. Accordingly, the choreographic text acquires unity not in its origin, but in its purpose. The analysis of the manifestation of intertextuality as one of the fundamental techniques in the productions of folk stage choreography requires considering them as works that consist of texts that are actualised in a specific semiotic context and contribute to the preservation of Ukrainian folk dance culture in particular and the cultural memory of Ukrainians in general.
Key words: improvisation, dance improvisation, improvisation in choreography, dance.

PyPSA-Earth. A new global open energy system optimization model demonstrated in Africa
  • Apr 19, 2023

  • Maximilian Parzen + 11 more

Macro-energy system modelling is used by decision-makers to steer the global energy transition towards an affordable, sustainable and reliable future. Closed-source models are the current standard for most policy and industry decisions. However, open models have proven to be competitive alternatives that promote science, robust technical analysis, collaboration and transparent policy decision-making. Yet, two issues slow the adoption: open models are often designed with particular geographic scope in mind, thus hindering synergies from collaborating, or are based on low spatially resolved data, limiting their use. Here we introduce PyPSA-Earth, an open-source global energy system model with data in high spatial and temporal resolution. It enables large-scale collaboration by providing a tool that can model the world’s energy system or any subset of it. The model is suitable for operational as well as combined generation, storage and transmission expansion studies. In this study, the novel power system capabilities of PyPSA-Earth are highlighted and demonstrated. The model provides two main features: (1) customizable data extraction and preparation with global coverage and (2) a PyPSA energy modelling framework integration. The data includes electricity demand, generation and medium to high-voltage networks from open sources, yet additional data can be further integrated. A broad range of clustering and grid meshing strategies help adapt the model to computational and practical needs. Data validation for the entire African continent is performed and the optimization features are tested with a 2060 net-zero planning study for Nigeria. The demonstration shows that the presented developments can build a highly detailed power system model for energy planning studies to support policy and technical decision-making. We anticipate that PyPSA-Earth can represent an open reference model for system planning, and we welcome joining forces to address the challenges of the energy transition together.

Technical progress as a factor of economic growth in the classical theory of J. S. Mill
  • Dec 3, 2025
  • Herald of Economics
  • Taras Pasichnyk

Introduction. J. S. Mill is traditionally regarded as a thinker who summarized the achievements of classical political economy, but his approach is much broader, as he integrates economics into the context of social philosophy. J. S. Mill sought to provide a comprehensive interpretation of socio-economic issues, including the distribution of roles between the state and the market, the organization of production, and the impact of technology on labor. His vision of economic growth includes not only capital accumulation, but also the role of institutions, ethics, and technological progress. Of particular importance is the idea of the “antagonistic principle,” which reveals the compensatory function of innovation in relation to natural and social constraints. Despite the relevance of these ideas in the context of modern challenges, J. S. Mill’s contribution to growth theory is still underestimated. Objective. The modern interpretation of J. S. Mill’s theory of economic growth, considering the importance of innovative factors within the classical paradigm of political economy. Methods. To achieve this goal, hermeneutical analysis (to identify the content, hidden meanings and logical structure of J. S. Mill’s growth concept), historical, genetic and comparative analytical methods, as well as conceptual and mathematical modeling are used. Results. J. S. Mill’s theory of economic growth is reconstructed as an open dynamic system that combines technological progress, institutional factors and social philosophy. The key role of the “antagonistic principle” as a mechanism that allows technical innovations to compensate for natural and social constraints on production is highlighted. A mathematical interpretation of J. S. Mill’s approach based on I. Adelman’s generalized growth model with regard to institutional and innovative variables is proposed. It is shown that the concept of steady state in his theory does not imply stagnation, but a transition to a qualitatively new type of development. Prospects for further research lie in the mathematical extension of J. S. Mill’s growth model by constructing a production function with endogenous technological and institutional variables. In addition, a comparative analysis, in particular, a comparison of J. S. Mill’s ideas with modern concepts of sustainable development and the “happiness economy”, is a promising direction.

Pandemics, Populism and Democracy
  • Jul 18, 2023
  • International Journal of Social Science and Human Research
  • Dr Negin Bavili

Covid 19 pandemic is an external factor that imposed itself on the global stage. Societies are considered open systems that can be influenced by the pandemic. This research will firstly explore the obligatory etiquettes that have been imposedon people's lifestyles by the emergence of Covid-19 pandemic. Secondly, it will study the triggering effect of Covid-19 pandemic on the populist environment. Thirdly, it will investigate the relationship among Covid-19, populism, and democratic systems. A qualitative research methodology will be used, specifically a phenomenological hermeneutic analysis of the phenomenon of populism in the Covid-19 pandemic crisis environment and its effect on democratic rights. Additionally, the different responses ofpopulists towards the Covid- 19 pandemic will be studied in order to see whether populist rhetoric triggers democratic decay of rights.

Современная скандинавская «Сага о политической экономии»: «Against the Stream. Critical Essays on Economics» Гуннара Мюрдаля

Introduction. It is proposed to pose the question of the original understanding of fundamental economic science as a political economy, presented by Gunnar Myrdal in the book “Against the Stream. Critical Essays on Economics”, which can be regarded from a certain point of view as a modern Scandinavian «Saga about political economy». Hermeneutic analysis. G. Myrdal’s paradigm concept, based on the concept of “establishment economics” was more meaningful than the modern use of the term “mainstream” to characterize the dominant flow of economic thought. The theoretical and methodological substantiation of the scientific hypothesis about the periodic emergence of crises and the formation of the economic science evolution cycles made it possible to explain the chronology of the Keynesian paradigm ascent and decline cycle by changes in economy and society. The arguments in favor of the institutional approach prompted a fundamental conclusion about the advisability of returning economic science to the original name of political economy and restoring its spiritual, moral, value dimension. G. Myrdal questioned and refuted the traditional abstract assumption about the conflict between economic growth and egalitarian reforms, for which one must pay a high price such as the national economy productivity decline, proposed the concept of “created harmony” to characterize the modern welfare state. Conclusion. The interpretation of the scientific monograph “Against the Stream. Critical Essays on Economics” in the style of Scandinavian “Saga about political economy” added a lot of very interesting details, judgments, explanations that substantively complemented the theoretical and methodological approach, showed the opportunity to study, research and present the history of economic thought in an attractive literary style without sacrificing depth and completeness of acquired knowledge.
