Abstract

A near-field (NF) focusing lens antenna with frequency scanning focal spots is proposed in this paper. The 3-D printing technology is employed to fabricate the transmitting lens, which simplifies the manufacturing process and reduces the cost. A dual-mode horn antenna is employed to illuminate the lens with a separated distance of 80 mm (the corresponding focal-to-depth (F/D) of 0.8). The focal points are located on the horizontal parallel plane 200 mm away from the lens, which scan from −13 mm to 10 mm along x-axis direction, with frequency increasing from 30 GHz to 40 GHz. Measured results are in good coincidence with the simulation. The proposed method could be applicable in various practical applications such as imaging systems, radar and so forth.
