Abstract
Thormodsaeter, A. 1969. Agriculture in Lyngdal. Norsk geogr. Tidsskr. 23, 171-184. The agriculture of Lyngdal is typical of the western part of Vest-Agder county in southern Norway. Most of the farmland is divided into small units wrought by nature and by the partition of farms through generations. Dairy farming, which predominates, is strongly subsidized and well organized. The scale of operation is, however, generally very small; many units operating at a subsistence level have discontinued. Much of the land is extensively farmed, particularly land owned by elderly people or by people with other sources of income. More active farmers can easily rent such land on short-term contracts, but it is difficult to buy farmland at rentable prices.
