Abstract

A technique based on an iterative numerical method is described for locating the bifurcation point which separates the dispersion curve for TE modes of a nonlinear planar waveguide into stable and unstable regions. Numerical examples are presented for waveguides with both step and graded refractive index profiles illustrating how iterative methods can be used to locate regions of stability.
