Abstract
The isotopic composition of massive, nodular and laminar calcretes from the Mediterranean coastal plain of Egypt indicates that the calcretes were formed mainly by vadose diagenetic processes. There is a general decrease in δ 18 O and δ 13 C with increasing diagenetic alteration of the oolitic limestones and formation of calcretes in the region.
