Abstract

Abstract A new technique is presented for the enrichment of isotopes by electromigration in aqueous solution. A mechanism for isotope enrichment of lithium ions in aqueous lithium hydroxide solution is suggested. Preliminary experiments were performed to separate lithium ions in aqueous lithium hydroxide solutions. The separation factor increased with the concentration of lithium hydroxide more than expected. A mechanism of isotope effect involving ionic hydration is discussed.
