Abstract

We study the role of isospin degree of freedom via studying the sensitivity of transverse in-plane flow towards the nuclear symmetry energy using isospin-dependent quantum molecular dynamics model. Our calculations indicate that the transverse in-plane flow at incident energies around or below the Fermi energy region is sensitive to the symmetry energy and, in fact, decreases without the symmetry energy. Moreover, the sensitivity of the transverse flow to the symmetry energy is reflected in the mean field contribution to the flow.
