Abstract

Fc fragments have been isolated from IgG1 and IgG3 subclasses of normal human sera. The IgG1 and IgG3 fragments were obtained by papain proteolysis of IgG in the absence of cysteine and subsequent chromatographic separation from unsplit IgG2 and IgG4 molecules. Pure IgG1 Fc free of contaminating IgG3 Fc was obtained by further papain digestion with cystein. In all sera tested, the IgG1 Fc marker ‘non a’ was associated with the Gm(f) antigen of IgG1 Fd fragments. Furthermore, within IgG3 Fc fragments ‘non g’ was always associated with Gm(b).
