Abstract

DR. ROBIN ALLEY (Peoria, Illinois): This is actually a very timely paper for me as my private group of 12 surgeons just recently merged with a larger multi-specialty private group of 450 physicians. Looking at future trends of decreasing reimbursement rates, hospital system politics and increasing costs, it was very clear to us that within the next five to ten years, we would have had to have become hospital employees if we didn't make a change sooner than that. Merging with the larger group provides us with better financial stability and better reimbursement rates while allowing us to keep our autonomy.
