Abstract

Chronic prostatitis continues to be a poorly defined disease process with no definitive treatment modalities. Several minimally invasive therapies have been employed in the symptomatic treatment of this disease. This article reviews the current literature on the treatment modalities, including transurethral microwave therapy and transurethral needle ablation, and their outcomes. Very few of the studies reviewed were designed as prospective, randomized control trials with objective outcomes and therefore only continue to be considered as experimental treatment options. The subjective results obtained in these studies warrant future investigation and validation of their effectiveness.
