Is a sustainable audiovisual industry possible? A review of the Turkish case

ABSTRACT This study aims to evaluate the current situation of the Turkish audiovisual industry by conducting comprehensive field research. It focuses on the structure of the industry, the problems it faces, and potential areas for development by drawing on the opinions of different key figures. Through interviews with key industry stakeholders, the study offers an in-depth assessment, addressing its challenges and opportunities. During the study, interviews were carried out with 22 professionals operating in eight different fields of the Turkish audiovisual industry. The data obtained were divided into predetermined codes and analysed using MAXQDA. To provide a portrait, the descriptive codes allowed comparisons to be made between industry representatives and offered valuable contextual insights about each participant. The findings of the study revealed that the industry has a significant number of problems. These problems stem mainly from the lack of a holistic view of the structure of the industry and a limited understanding of how to resolve observed challenges that have technological, pedagogical, and urban dimensions. The findings are intended to provide valuable insights for academics and industry professionals while providing suggestions for the development of film industry strategies.

Exploring the impact of job satisfaction on turnover intention among professionals in the construction industry

Purpose Turnover intention is a critical predictor of an employee’s turnover behaviour. A high level of turnover rate significantly affects the productivity and morale of an enterprise. Previous research has indicated that job satisfaction plays a critical role in influencing an employee's turnover intention, but the underlying factors related to job satisfaction remain under-explored, which impedes the development of effective strategies for reducing turnover intention. In addition, little research examined job satisfaction and turnover intention in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, specifically in the Chinese construction industry. This study aims to investigate the impact of job satisfaction on turnover intention among professionals in the construction industry. Design/methodology/approach A questionnaire survey was employed to collect viewpoints from 449 professionals in the Chinese construction industry, followed by descriptive analysis, correlation analysis and structural equation modelling analysis to derive results. Findings The findings indicate that professionals in the industry generally have a slightly high level of job satisfaction while a slightly low level of turnover intention in the special period of the pandemic outbreak. Leadership and management, training and career development and interpersonal relationships are critical underlying factors leading to their turnover intention. Although demographic factors have no moderating effect between job satisfaction and turnover intention, among them, age, marital status and years of working experience have strongly positive relationships with job satisfaction while significantly negative relationships with turnover intention. Originality/value The findings provide valuable insights to fully understand the critical factors leading to turnover intention from the perspective of job satisfaction, which is helpful in developing effective measures to address the turnover problems for enterprises in the Chinese construction industry and those industries with similar characteristics in other regions.

Attitudes Towards the Use of Generative AI in Education: Triangulating the Perspectives of Students, Teachers, and Industry Professionals

The rapid emergence of generative artificial intelligence (genAI) has transformed nearly every sector, with education experiencing particularly widespread and complex changes. From lesson planning to essay writing, genAI tools are now embedded in students and educators daily practices. While existing research has explored educational outcomes and pedagogical strategies, there remains a critical gap in understanding how key stakeholders- students, teachers, and industry professionals- perceive this technology and what implications these views may hold for implementation. Many prior studies have been limited by narrow participant pools (e.g., focusing only on students), short-term survey-based methods, or exclusion of broader social and professional perspectives, making it difficult to formulate responsive and inclusive policy frameworks. To address these limitations, the present study employed a qualitative, interview-based methodology to examine the perspectives of 27 students, 7 industry professionals, and 2 teachers. Through inductive thematic analysis, the study surfaced both shared and group-specific concerns and aspirations. Findings reveal that participants widely view genAI as a powerful learning and productivity tool, yet express concern about academic dishonesty, overreliance, and diminished critical thinking. All groups emphasized the need for ethical guidelines and skill development frameworks. These findings are important because they foreground the lived experiences of multiple educational stakeholders, revealing that responsible integration of genAI must be collaborative, equity-driven, and responsive to both educational and workforce needs.

The problems of the development of territorial communities have become particularly relevant at the current stage. Important features of development are the coherence of economic, social and ecological vectors, taking into account the potential of local resources, additional favorable factors: investment, logistics, infrastructure. Within territorial communities, an inventory of the resource base is carried out, investment passports are created, development strategies are developed, existing problems are analyzed and ways of solving them are substantiated. A complex range of tasks is solved at their levels, which requires a certain level of professional training of management personnel, the introduction of effective monitoring of development processes. The authors have published a series of articles devoted to the analysis of the potential of natural resources, problems of environmental development management, imbalanced land use, etc. Consideration of urban territorial communities (MTH) is due to their leading role as centers of development and regional poles of growth. The novelty of this study consists in the analysis of the main economic, social, ecological parameters and factors of perspective development and the typology of urban territorial communities of the Ternopil region.
 The authors have published a series of articles devoted to the analysis of the potential of natural resources, the problems of managing ecological development, the imbalance of land use in territorial communities of Ternopil Oblast. Consideration of urban territorial communities (UTC) is due to their leading role as centers of development and regional poles of growth. The novelty of this study consists in the analysis of the main economic, social, ecological parameters and factors of perspective development and the typology of urban territorial communities of the Ternopil region.
 The basic indicators of the development of 18 UTC s were collected and analyzed. Thus, indicators of high population density are observed in Ternopil and Chortkivska UTC with a high share of the urban population and insignificant indicators of occupied areas. Indicators of the availability of agricultural land are also the lowest in the above-mentioned UTC s (58% and 60%, respectively). The lowest share of arable land is represented in the Ternopil (38.2%), Berezhan (40%) and Monastyris (42.5%) and Shum (42%) UTC s, the location of the last three being limited to substantially forested mountainous areas. The highest shares of land under forests are concentrated in Berezhanska (33%), Shumska (32%) and Kopychynetska (27.3%) UTC. The opposite indicators are observed in Khorostkivska (1.5%), Lanovetska (5.0%) UTC.
 With regard to indicators of economic development of communities, an analysis of the financial capacity of territorial communities was carried out using such parameters as revenues from the general fund of the budget, the level of subsidization of the TG budget, the share of the community's income due to inter-budgetary transfers. Based on the results of their comparison, four types of urban communities were distinguished according to their functional features and role in development processes: - self-sufficient UTC as a center of regional growth (Ternopil); self-sufficient UTC as regional poles of growth (Chortkivska, Kremenetska, Berezhanska); capable UTC as areas of potential development (Zbarazka, Zborivska, Pidgaetska, Skalatska, Terebovlyanska); conditionally capable UTC as territories of unbalanced development (Borshchivska, Buchachska, Zalischytska, Kopychynetska, Lanovetska, Monastyriska, Pochaivska, Khorostkivska, Shumska). It is emphasized that half of the UTCs (9 out of 18) belong to the conditionally capable category, which implies the substantiation of the system of measures to achieve their coordinated development. Factors of the potential development of UTC were considered, including: natural (due to the optimization of the structure of natural lands, increasing the share of protected objects and territories), social (due to the prospect of creating regional landscape parks as objects of development of the tourist and recreational sphere), economic ( due to its proximity to various transport highways, development of logistics infrastructure, as well as in-depth processing of agricultural products (sugar, alcohol, flour, meat, leather, wool, vegetables and fruits) and forestry products (lumber, mushrooms, berries, nuts). attention to the investment passports of communities, which contribute to the potential opportunities for their participation in investment projects with the involvement of foreign, private and local capital. landscape and national natural parks, enterprises for advanced processing of raw materials and semi-finished products of agro-industrial and forestry complexes within the communities of unbalanced development. Taking into account the development factors specified in the publication, the justification of alternatives will contribute to the search for directions for the balance of natural and economic territorial systems.

The global fisheries industry plays a critical role in providing essential nutrients and animal protein to humanity. However, the industry is undergoing a rapid paradigm shift due to technological advancements and demographic changes, particularly the aging population in fishing villages. This study aims to analyze how smart aquaculture environmental characteristics and system quality in the AI era influence the acceptance intention of these technologies through the recognition of the value of the fishery industry. This study employs an empirical approach to assess the impact of smart aquaculture on the fisheries sector. The research utilizes Smart PLS 4.0 for statistical analysis, drawing data from individuals engaged in or interested in the fishery industry. The study focuses on evaluating the relationship between smart aquaculture environmental characteristics, system quality, value perception of the fisheries industry, and acceptance intention of AI-driven technologies. The results indicate that the higher the impact of smart aquaculture environmental characteristics and system quality on the value perception of the fisheries industry, the stronger the acceptance intention of AI-driven technologies. This confirms that enhancing technological infrastructure and system efficiency significantly contributes to the greater adoption of smart aquaculture solutions. The study highlights the transformative role of AI-based automation and ICT convergence technology in the fisheries industry. As smart aquaculture continues to evolve, its adoption is influenced by how stakeholders perceive its value. The findings emphasize that technological advancements must be accompanied by efforts to enhance users’ trust and understanding of AI-driven systems. The study provides valuable insights for policymakers, stakeholders, and industry professionals. By leveraging system quality and social influence factors, stakeholders can enhance the adoption of smart aquaculture technologies. Despite unprecedented opportunities to publish content in accessible formats, most books remain inaccessible to people with print disability. Technological advances and new legal frameworks are creating a transition toward inclusive publishing practices, but systemic barriers continue to limit equitable access to books for millions of individuals worldwide. Scholarship has also moved slowly, leaving a significant gap in our understanding of the strategic, technological and ethical dimensions of inclusive publishing. This Element offers the first holistic examination of this landscape, and argues for the need to move away from ad hoc remediation of books towards the commercial production of 'born-accessible' content. Through policy research, industry case studies, and strategic partnership mapping, it critically examines the rationale, implementation, and potential of inclusive publishing. By articulating both business imperatives and social responsibilities, it proposes a transformative framework for understanding accessibility that offer valuable insights for researchers, industry professionals, and advocacy groups.

Implications for Policy in South Korean Seafood Education via the Lens of the Social, Ecological, and Technological Systems (SETS) Model

This study aims to evaluate the impact of integrating the Social, Ecological, Technological Systems (SETS) keyword coding—which categorizes sustainability themes into social, ecological, and technological dimensions—into seafood consumption education programs. In this study, the SETS framework is utilized to conduct an analysis of the educational environment around the consumption of seafood in South Korea. Through the utilization of focus group interviews with industry professionals, the research reveals that the current educational framework on the consumption of seafood and dietary education has a substantial gap in its coverage. The study indicates a predominant focus on the social aspects (56.46%) of seafood consumption education among stakeholders, succeeded by the technological (28.26%) and ecological dimensions (15.28%). To enhance seafood dietary education, the study proposes two primary avenues: developing comprehensive seafood dietary education programs for diverse age demographics and establishing a training system for specialized professionals in seafood dietary education. Future research should refine the SETS approach and explore its broader application across food systems to further promote sustainable consumption.

Blockchain technology, with its decentralized and immutable ledger, offers a robust solution to these challenges. This chapter is an attempt to explore the role of blockchain technology in ensuring the integrity and transparency of the pharmaceutical supply chain. The study presents a comprehensive overview of research studies and patents on the use of blockchain technology in diverse industries. Essentially, a blockchain is a string of transactional blocks linked by a hashing algorithm to the previous block. This chapter proposes blockchain-based processes designed to ensure the integrity and transparency of the supply chain in the pharmaceutical industry. With a detailed case study and examples, this chapter illustrates how startups and pioneering blockchain-based solutions create a secure, transparent supply chain. Enhancing Stakeholders’ Engagement in TVET Policy and Strategy Development in Ethiopia

This study investigates the depth of stakeholders’ engagement in the formulation of TVET policies and strategies and assesses the efficacy of awareness-building initiatives in Ethiopia. Anchored in a transformative worldview, this qualitative study utilizes a phenomenological research design and involves 35 participants selected for interviews from 33 organizations, including officials, industry representatives, and TVET deans. Moreover, two separate focus groups comprised of trainers were convened to engage in discussions about the subject matter, and a document analysis was made. The data collection was conducted by the researchers, assisted by a team of five individuals, with one representative from each region. Purposive sampling was employed to select participants. The findings reveal that key stakeholders, specifically the Ministries of Construction, Urban Development, and Tourism, lacked substantive engagement in the policy formulation process. Additionally, some ministerial level and major TVET policy and strategy implementers, like trainers and industries, did not have a clear awareness of the current TVET policy and strategy. Additionally, there is a notable absence of participation from regional agencies, associations, and industries in policy and strategy design. From the total list of 35 interviewed respondents, only 17% were engaged, whereas, from two sets of focus group discussions, none of the stakeholders were engaged in TVET policy and strategy development. The study concludes that Ethiopian TVET policy and strategy formulation suffer from insufficient stakeholders’ involvement and fragmented awareness initiatives. It is inferred that there is an imperative for the Ministry of Labour and Skills to foster awareness and dialogues at both the federal and regional spheres, incorporating feedback from pivotal stakeholders for future policy refinements.

Data-Driven Analysis of Construction Safety Dynamics: Regulatory Frameworks, Evolutionary Patterns, and Technological Innovations

Construction remains one of the most hazardous industries, consistently reporting high rates of workplace injuries and fatalities. Despite advancements in safety regulations and technologies, significant risks persist due to hazardous tasks, including working at heights, operating heavy machinery, and exposure to harmful materials. The establishment of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration in 1971 marked a significant turning point in construction safety, resulting in a decline in workplace fatalities. However, evolving construction methodologies and digital transformations demand continuous research to enhance worker protection and mitigate emerging risks. This study conducts a longitudinal bibliometric analysis to examine the evolution of construction safety research from 1972 to 2025. Using a dataset of 14,174 journal publications from Scopus, the analysis identifies key research trends, technological advancements, and regulatory shifts that have shaped the field. Findings reveal a transition from basic safety regulations to AI-driven hazard detection, digital twins, and IoT-enabled safety monitoring. The study also identifies key contributors, including prominent countries. By tracing both historical and contemporary research trends, this study offers insights into knowledge gaps and provides guidance on future directions. The findings provide valuable insights for researchers, policymakers, and industry professionals, supporting the development of research-informed safety strategies and the integration of emerging technologies in an increasingly complex industry.

The Value of Cancer Immunotherapy Summit at the 2016 Society for Immunotherapy of Cancer 31st Anniversary Annual Meeting

As healthcare costs continue to rise, there has been great interest in understanding and defining the value of current therapeutic strategies for the treatment of cancer. Cancer immunotherapy has emerged as a clinically beneficial alternative to conventional therapies for a variety of malignancies. Characterized by broad clinical activity, durable response rates, distinct side effects, and unique response kinetics, immune-based agents are vastly different compared with traditional cytotoxic or targeted therapies. To date, however, value assessments in oncology have not focused on the unique aspects of cancer immunotherapy, which has resulted in a lack of understanding of the true value of these therapies. Therefore, the Society for Immunotherapy of Cancer (SITC) convened key stakeholders to address the critical issues that define the value of cancer immunotherapy in National Harbor, Maryland on November 13, 2016. Organized in collaboration with the American Society for Clinical Oncology (ASCO) and with over 1500 registrants, this Value of Cancer Immunotherapy Summit united research scientists, academic physicians, industry professionals, health economists, third-party payers, and patients to discuss critical issues surrounding the value framework for cancer immunotherapy. This half-day summit addressed the current landscape of cancer therapy value models, economic outcomes, the current status of predictive biomarkers, as well as presentations from third-party payers, industry representatives, patient outcome experts, and patient advocacy groups to gain their perspectives on the value of cancer immunotherapy. Here, we summarize the presentations and the dominant themes from this symposium, with the intention of providing insight on future directions and to develop recommendations to better define the value of cancer immunotherapy for patients with cancer.

Accessibility all areas? UK live music industry perceptions of current practice and Information and Communication Technology improvements to accessibility for music festival attendees who are deaf or disabled

PurposeThis paper responds to a range of theory and industry reporting, to provide an informed narrative which explores the current state of accessibility at UK festivals for people who are Deaf or disabled and the potential implications of developments in ICT for enhancing design, marketing, operations and performances across all phases of festival delivery, in order to improve inclusivity and accessibility. To this end, the paper addresses the following question: What do representatives of the UK live music industry perceive as barriers to accessibility and exemplars of current best practice for music festival attendees who are Deaf or disabled? What do representatives of the UK live music industry consider as the role of ICT to increase accessibility for music festival attendees who are Deaf or disabled?Design/methodology/approachPrimary research focused on supply-side considerations with a sample group of 10 UK live music industry professionals. The scope of the research was limited geographically to England and by artform to open-air music festivals, venues which host some music festival provision and a Sector Support Organisation. Open questions elucidated qualitative information around; awareness of accessibility and inclusivity initiatives; potential for co-creation; non-digital improvements; current technological influences; and potential digital futures for accessible “live” experiences. A conceptual framework was constructed and semi-structured face-to-face interviews were carried out with six respondents, and four respondents completed a structured, self-administered e-mail questionnaire.FindingsFindings include: ICT can facilitate enhanced dialogue with existing and potential audience members who are Deaf or disabled to both; reduce existing social exclusion (Duffy et al., 2019) and improve the visitor experience for all attendees. All respondents agreed that physical enhancements are important and some mentioned communications and customer care. Respondents reported increasingly ambitious usages of ICT at music festivals, which may support suggestions of a virtual experience trend (Robertson et al., 2015). Online ticketing systems have potential to grant equal functionality to people who are Deaf or disabled, as recommended by the Department for Culture, Media & Sport (2015). Respondents broadly welcomed the potential for positive impacts of ICT on increasingly accessible live experiences at music festivals which retained a sense of authenticity and “liveness”. Challenges around “as live” ICT-derived experiences were identified including risks of creating second-class experiences for Deaf and disabled attendees.Research limitations/implicationsThe limitations of this case study include the small sample size and limited scope.Practical implicationsPromoters should: consider further developing the co-creation of accessibility initiatives, utilising ICT to both deliver improvements and engage with potential audience members who are Deaf or disabled. Seek to pro-actively recruit staff members who are Deaf or disabled and significantly increase their programming of performers who are Deaf or disabled. Consider reviewing their ticketing processes for music festivals, to identify accessibility challenges for audience members and implement appropriate ICT-based solutions. Consider maximising accessibility benefits for audience members who are Deaf or disabled from existing ICT provision on site and explore additional bespoke ICT solutions at music festivals.Social implicationsAdopting the best practices described across the festival sector may improve inclusivity for disabled people at music festivals and other events. Event management educators should consider reviewing provision to ensure that best practice is embedded around accessibility for audience members who are Deaf or disabled. Additional public funding should be provided to drive ICT-derived improvements to accessibility for audience members who are Deaf or disabled at smaller-scale music festivals. Further research should be considered around inclusive approaches to digital experiences within a music festival environment for audience members who are Deaf or disabled and tensions between accessibility and notions of “liveness”.Originality/valueThe “snapshot” of digital aspects of accessibility at UK festivals within this research is of particular value due to paucity of other research in this area, and it's narrative from varied industry professionals. The paper makes recommendations to promoters, academics and public funders, to attempt to advance inclusion (or at least to mitigate current exclusion) and identify directions for future research into accessible digital experiences at music festivals for people who are Deaf or disabled.
