Abstract

The formation of sporadic E layers over the magnetic equator, Thumba can not be explained in terms of the wind shear theory. Results of five rocket flights conducted during night time at Thumba are presented in this paper. It has been observed that sporadic E layers were observed only during March and December months, while during February and April months such layers were not present. It is suggested that these layers are formed due to metallic ions associated with meteor showers.
