Abstract

The secondary lithium metal system is the ultimate negative electrode given its phase, redox potential and mass. To maximize the energy density of a cell the lithium metal should be in coulombic balance with the cathode of choice, but the large scale manufacturing of thin lithium foils remains a challenge. In this presentation we will review the programmers and challenges of primary production of lithium foil directly from lithium salt and oxides, and compare the efficacy of these films to thermal and chemical processing routes.
