Abstract

The article by Lynch (1) entitled “A method for following patients with retrievable inferior vena cava filters: results and lessons learned from the first 1,100 patients” is an important addition to the inferior vena cava (IVC) filter literature, and to-date reports on the largest single patient population dealing with a method by which to follow IVC filter recipients. In addition, because of the significant number of filters placed at the author's institution, in addition to the data collected before and after implementation of the follow-up strategy, the author was able to directly determine the effects of the standardized approach to IVC filter removal.
