Abstract
One of the most famous incomplete musical compositions, Bach’s The Art of Fugue, exemplifies the theoretically infinite variations of a single musical theme by combining two or more nearly independent melodic lines that, when played together, contribute equally to an emergent harmony similar to or a variation on the principal theme. The outcome of mitral repair (principal theme) may, much like the fugue, vary to some degree as one or more of the contributing variables, such as age, ventricular dimensions, or repair strategy, to name a few, change from patient to patient.
