Abstract
Composite structures are believed to have an optimum level of mechanical, thermal and chemical properties. In this study Kevlar, Basalt and Glass fibers are employed for obtaining hybrid laminate composite structures. The course of steps to be followed for fabricating desired composite structures is Hand lay-up process. Epoxy resin is utilized as the binding material amides the fiber. Further, Nano silica carbide is used as filler material in composite structures, which yields an improvement in mechanical property. The fabricated hybrid laminate composite structures are subjected to abrasive water jet machining to obtain the test specimens. Composite Specimens with and without Nano filler are tested for their mechanical properties. From the results of tensile, shear and flexural tests it is inferred that mechanical property is more promising in Basalt-Kevlar-Glass fiber composite with Nano silica carbide than it counterpart. Based on the results Basalt-Kevlar-Glass fiber composite with Nano silica carbide prove useful in aerospace and defence sector.
