Abstract

Present study deals with the effect of Sm3+ doping on crystal and optical behaviour of Sr3MgSi2O8. For these studies prepared phosphor was characterized by using X-ray powder diffraction and luminescence spectra by recording excitation and emissions spectra. Emission spectra have emission wave lengths centered at 490 nm and 545 nm. Effect of Sm3+ ion concentration shows dipole–dipole interaction was responsible for the quenching shown by phosphor. The thermoluminescence curves were used to define the ability of the trap to trapping the carriers for Sm3+ doped Sr3MgSi2O8 phosphor.
