Abstract

The effect of fluorine promotion of Pt-Re/Al2O3 catalysts on their acidic and catalytic properties in the reforming of n-heptane was studied. An increase in fluorine content of the catalysts from 0.4 to 2.0 wt% was shown to increase total acidity of the samples mostly due to the medium-strength and strong acid sites. The increase in acidity of the fluorine-containing catalysts was accompanied by an enhancement of their activity toward the transformations of n-heptane. Therewith, the fluorine addition (0.4–2.0 wt%) allowed obtaining the product with a decreased content of aromatic hydrocarbons in the reformate at the retained octane number.
