Abstract

Acinetobacter calcoaceticus var. anitratus is a gram-negative nonfermenter coccobacillus distributed widely in the environment (e.g., water, sewage, soil, etc.). It can colonize human skin and mucosae and occasionally causes opportunistic infections in immunocompromised patients.lV3 The organism has been implicated with increasing frequency in sporadic outbreaks of nosocomial infections.
