Abstract

This case study describes the investigation of a laboratory confirmed case of trichinellosis in a three-year-old female residing on a farm in southwest Ontario. A joint investigation between the Grey Bruce Health Unit and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency allowed for the collection of food samples, animal trace back, and on-farm inspections. Suspect food samples were laboratory confirmed positive for Trichinella spiralis larvae. A food history and review of on-farm husbandry practices revealed a possible scenario for the source of infection.
