Abstract

AbstractIn this paper the optimal replenishment schedule, that is, the number and timing of replenishments, is derived for a class of deterministic inventory models with general time-dependent demand and carrying cost functions. These results generalize several papers in the literature including the author’s previous work on the case of power-form demand and carrying cost functions. The results are applicable in several important inventory management situations. Examples include inventory problems involving discounted or inflated costs and problems in which demand and / or carrying cost functions are estimated through statistical time-series analysis.
