Abstract

This article begins by describing how management of treatment plant residuals is demanding more time, attention, and funds in capital investment for residuals processing facilities, in operation and maintenance, and in final disposal than ever before. The article lists conventional and emerging issues of residuals management and discusses developments in treatment and disposal practices. The article then describes the AWWA Water Treatment Plant Residuals Management Committee (RMC) whose focus is on residuals processing technologies and disposal issues. Its mission is to educate and share information with water utilities and members regarding residuals management issues through a variety of means.
