Abstract

A female patient, 3 years old, presented to the oral and maxillofacial surgery service accompanied by the mother with a reported increased volume in hemiface (D) over 2 years. The physical examination showed facial asymmetry and pigmentation of the type “coffee with milk” in the region of the injury. CT scan revealed hypodense image with involvement of the right maxilla extending to the orbital region. MRI showed an expansive lesion with elongated nodular form images, affecting the soft parts on topography of nerve bundles, with extension through the foramen inferior orbital fissure to round the middle cranial fossa. Incisional biopsy was performed with a diagnosis of neurofibroma. Subsequently, the patient underwent surgery for removal of the lesion. Histopathologic analysis confirmed a diagnosis of intraneural neurofibroma plexiform pattern. The patient is under observation for 1 year. Clinical aspects will be discussed, along with histopathology and treatment of this rare histologic subtype.
