Abstract

AbstractHeteroclusters of ortho‐xylene (OX) and dimethylamine (DMA) were studied by resonance‐enhanced two‐photon ionization spectroscopy (R2PI). The obtained mass spectra consist mainly of reaction products from dissociative electron and dissociative proton transfer reactions in the ionic aggregates. In the 1:1 aggregate, a competition between both reaction pathways is observed. Proton transfer, being the favoured reaction pathway in the 1:1 aggregate after resonance enhanced two‐photon ionization, is suppressed when going to higher clusters as a consequence of structural and energetic changes in the aggregates. Due to the high reactivity of the ionic aggregates, intermolecular fragmentation is only observed after intracluster reaction.
