Abstract

In this study 240 older patients with schizophrenia were randomly assigned to either a behavioural skills-based treatment approach, or a time-equivalent attention control condition. The behavioural intervention comprised 24 weekly group-based sessions aimed at teaching participants everyday functional skills such as medication management. The control condition was also 24 weekly group-based sessions but based on a support group method, whereby participants would talk amongst themselves to solve current problems but with no input from the group facilitators.
