Abstract
It has, of recent years, become something of a commonplace that in the formal analysis of the semantics of natural language we should allow for sentences which can change their truth value with the passage of time. Thus we can speak of a sentence’s being true at a time t 1 and false at another time t 2. t 1 and t 2 are called temporal indices or points of reference at which the sentence is assessed for truth or falsity.2 Until very recently a temporal index would have been thought of as a single moment or instant of time but certain authors3 have considered that the appropriate index is rather a time interval.
