Abstract

It is necessary to take into account the occurrence of disorder in 2D adlayers in order to interpret LEED patterns with zero-intensity fractional-order Bragg reflections. A computerized trial and error method is used in lattice gas and kinematic approximations, to model the structural features relevant to such diffraction data. A comprehensive application to the Cu(110)-S, Ni(110)-S and Pd(110)-S systems shows the possibilities of such a method to extend the field of qualitative interpretation of LEED patterns.
