Abstract
The dynamic cone penetration tests and their standardization are reviewed, and the proper interpretation with empirical equations is expressed for obtaining the relative density, allowable bearing pressure and other properties of cohesionless soils on the basis of the observed dynamic cone resistance values. The effect of overburden pressure on the dynamic cone penetration resistance value, the validity of Terzaghi and Peck's chart, the validity of existing of SPT-correction method, the allowable bearing pressure from the dynamic cone penetration value, and the relationship between relative density, angle of internal friction and the dynamic cone penetration resistance value are discussed. The dynamic cone penetration test is very quick and economical for all types of site investigation work and in particular for the design of shallow foundations.
