Abstract

Selected ion flow drift tube (SIFDT) with He buffer gas an several reactant gases (Ar, Ne, N2) was used to study the influence of internal excitation of dimer ions Kr 2 + , (CO) 2 + and N 4 + on the kinetics of the collision induced dissociation (CID). The reaction rate coefficients and product ions have been determined as a function of two collision energiesE r (the reactant ion/reactant neutral center-of-mass energy) andE b (the reactant ion/buffer gas atom center-of-mass energy). Arrhenius activation energies towards dissociation have been obtained. The present data indicate that the internal temperatureT i of the driftingions is in close equilibrium withE b , i.e.,E b =3/2k B T i .
