Abstract

Ionic liquids such as n-Bu 4PX salts (X = Cl −, Br −, I −) have a strong promoting effect for the Pt(II)-catalyzed hydroamination of ethylene and 1-hexene with aniline. In the case of ethylene, n-Bu 4PBr is the most efficient activator, whereas n-Bu 4PI is even more efficient in the case of 1-hexene. A special effect of molecular iodine has also been pointed out. Most notably, Pt(IV) precursors are also shown to be active for the hydroamination of ethylene. As for Pt(II) precursors, Pt(IV)- n-Bu 4PX associations exhibit enhanced catalytic activities.
