Abstract
The paper presents teaching and learning experiences from the use of interactive modules (interactive videos and interactive presentations) in a MOOC (Massive Open Online Course). The paper focuses on problematic issues and added values of interactive modules as perceived by students in a pilot of the course. The intention of using interactive modules in a MOOC is to motivate and activate the students through interactive videos and interactive presentations. The research questions of the study are: 1) How are students engaged by interactive modules? and 2) How should interactive modules be designed to make MOOC students interact with the learning material? The students were mainly positive, and found that the interactive learning modules were useful. Interactivity made the students able to engage with topics where they felt they needed more knowledge. Most found it easy to find and repeat specific parts of the videos. Interactive videos also seem to work better, for most students, when there were embedded quizzes in the video, avoiding passive viewers of the video.
